Prepare to be aMAZEd!

23 Apr 2024

The GPS Adventures Maze is coming to New Zealand! With the Rotorua 2025 Block Party event celebrating the milestone of 25 years of geocaching, and the first geocache ever placed outside of the US, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to bring the GPS Adventures Maze to New Zealand for the first time. The GPS Adventures Maze is a very rare cache type, so if you're keen to visit a really interesting GPS and geocaching exhibit, and also get this rare geocache icon on your profile, make sure you have the Rotorua Block Party in your diary!

Venue announcement!

23 Mar 2024

After a lot of behind the scenes work, we can announce that the venue for the 2025 Block Party event will be held at the Rotorua Bridge Club in Neil Hunt Park in the eastern suburbs of Rotorua. This venue has an impressively large open space to hold our event and a quiz night. While the main Block Party event will take place on Saturday 3rd of May, we will have the venue open and activities taking place for the whole weekend including some surprises we can hardly wait to let you know about!

Green light, GO!

23 Feb 2024

We are all familiar with that particular shade of geocaching green... We are pleased to announce that our application to run the 25 Years of Geocaching NZ event has been approved by Groundspeak, and that once published, and we receive 300 "Will Attend" logs, the event will be upgraded to "Block Party" - the only event of this type in New Zealand. The event cache page is expected to be published on May 3rd 2024, so keep an eye out for it!

25 years of geocaching NZ website launched!

31 Jan 2024

The first version of the website has been launched for the event. There's not much here at the moment but it will be added to over time as more details of the event are finalised.

Where it all began...

24 Jan 2024

After a lot of behind-the-scenes thinking and planning, the decision was made that this is an important milestone to celebrate within the New Zealand, and wider, geocaching community: On the 3rd of May 2000 (25 years before this event), the first geocache was placed, and 9 days later, near Rotorua in New Zealand, the very first geocache was hidden outside of the US - GC45. This is where the game went international first!
